Cheng's enthusiasm for the game was palpable in an interview. "I think that 'Diablo Immortal' will alter a lot of people's views on what they consider to be an mobile game" Cheng told The D2R Items Washington Post. "That has been one of our goals right from the beginning. Let's raise the bar for what you can expect from the mobile games."

"I have three children and they're all teenagers, and they do not make the same distinction between consoles, computers or mobile," Cheng said. "They have a passion for gaming on a variety of platforms."

The game is set to see a simultaneous launch on PC with full keyboard-and-mouse and controller support, in addition to cross-play and cross-progression with mobile-enabled at the launch. This was the result of a beta test in which creators of gaming content said they'd need to replicate the game for the purpose of displaying it on their channels according to Rod Fergusson, general manager of the Diablo franchise.

"The concept of not having built-in support to PC and content creators did not feel right," he said. Work quickly began to bring the same experience from mobile to PC and to ensure that games function exactly like the other game with controllers and user interfaces that are designed for desk warriors. In the end, the concerns from 2018 around why the game even exists turned into fans asking questions about what the game would be like when it launched and asking for the game to be ported to a PC port.

"If you're trying to log in and looking forward to that short 3 to 5 minute jump into an dungeon, a lot of thought was put into"okay, where are you? What are we looking for you to be? Are you near a social gathering place?" Grubb said. "When you login to Westmarch the largest social city, you will find portals right there within Westmarch for the senior fractures as well as the challenge rifts."

The playtime for the sessions, Grubb said, was quite a bit longer, at around 45 minutes, and repeated through the whole day. This was when the team realized they had struck a great balance between quick play sessions and long runs to justifiably park in front of computers.

The game will function as live. This means the team has plans to release a variety of free updates, according to executive producer Peiwen Yao.

"The updates will include dungeons, storyline missions Bosses, game features, and brand new classes," she said, adding that she was unable to say the details of those plans yet.

Cheng said he remains confident of his vision of bringing the Diablo series to mobile. From a theoretical standpoint, this concept is sensible, especially considering that there's a myriad of Diablo replicas available for smartphones. The popularity and the historical comfort the Diablo brand name gives to the  Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Items is a significant element in its favor.
